New Ofsted Framework for Schools in 2012

A million pupils in coasting schools

Ofsted cites that as many as one million pupils in England are spending their schooling (primary and secondary) in schools rated no better than "satisfactory."  Under new plans, a  "satisfactory" rating  will be replaced with "requires improvement." Click here  for details.

Ofsted Report on English schools 2010/11

  • Teaching is not good enough in 4 out of 10 schools. Inspectors cite the quality of teaching in English schools is "still too variable".  The annual report from the schools' watchdog claimed that below-par schools relied too much on worksheets and a narrow range of textbooks.Click this link for the full report. 
  • Links were also made between weak teaching and poor behaviour.
  • Ofsted said that deprivation continued to be a "significant factor influencing the quality of schools".
